Greetings!
Welcome to The Known World, where I post about the characters, places, and things pertaining to the world setting of the same name, which will eventually be featured in a future book to be titled The Other Side of the Sun.

TL;DR: Pretty much what it says on the tin… I discuss my work on Dispatch #7, which will offer more details about the Known World’s system of “magic,” as well as a bit about my evolving map of the Meldûn Borderlands.

Prologue
Greetz, my Esteemed Friends!
Just a quick note to let you know I’m working on three things related to my fictional project known as The Known World, the underlying milieu that will be featured in my future books, such as The Other Side Of The Sun.
Mainly I am sifting through copious amounts of written material I’ve generated over many years pertaining to The Skill - that marvelous system of “magic” that is actually a metaphysical source of knowledge and power that requires at least some discipline to control it.
The Acquainted Reader may have already read my 1st Dispatch on the topic, wherein I set forth a couple of building blocks required to practice the craft. The forthcoming Dispatch, namely Dispatch #7, will delve more into matters such as 1) what The Skill is, 2) what a Mage is, and 3) how one becomes a Mage.
I have plans to publish said Dispatch within the next fortnight or thereabouts, but please don’t hold me to a precise schedule… that way neither of us run the risk of being disappointed. 😉I am also proceeding apace with an improved version of my 2nd map, which will depict the region where much storytelling will eventually take place, known as the Meldûn Borderlands.
I’ve settled upon what I believe will be a better set of iconography to use on that map, and I’ve also acquired a very nice, exotic-looking yet very legible font that should make the place names easier for Earthfolk to read. As many of you know, I am a notorious user of circumflexes, so I am modifying the font a bit to include them. I hope to release this map sometime in mid to late September.
(For those who may have missed my 1st map, which depicts the Known World overall, one can view that little bit of work here.)I’m also trying to teach myself how to draw headshots of my characters, but let’s just say I’m still trying to crack the code on how to do that. I’m also trying to decide whether to draw them as sort of anime-like caricatures, or use a more conventional kind of art style.
I’d really like to include those character portraits as part of a reintroduction of the more prominent characters hailing from the Borderlands. I have no idea just yet as to if or when the portraits might begin to show up in my Dispatches, much depends on if and when my drawing skills become worthy of sharing.
Epilogue
That’s it for now! Have an excellent yet safe Labor Day weekend if you’re among those who celebrate it, and happy last weekend in August to those who don’t!
As the character Tigger in Winnie the Pooh used to say, TTFN…
This concludes today’s Dispatch. Thanks for reading!
